Zombieland. |
December 12, 2009 |
Good day folks.
Attended the premiere of Zombieland courtesy of Advertlets on Tuesday. My initial impression of the movie was probably a movie which strikes a fine line between a horror & comedy flick. Its a way-cool way to start off a horror comedy about zombies by having the main character admit that living in a world overrun by the undead isn’t all that different from the loser life he had before society collapsed in a frenzy of brain-eating.
Catch us on Unseen.tv [link] Its a video of Leonard, myself and Josh; alongside with the movie trailer.
Starring: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin Director: Ruben Fleischer
A cowardly shut-in named Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) being a socially awkward, gag-spouting teenage boy from a dysfunctional family helps him fit in with his new environment as he travels across ”Zombieland” (his pet name for the former US), hoping to hook up with his parents. He is forced to join up with a seasoned zombie-slayer named Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse. Tallahasse, whose love of Willie Nelson, Twinkies and Bill Murray movies is exceeded only by his passion for killing zombies As Tallahassee sets out on a mission to find the last Twinkie on Earth, the duo meets up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), two young girls who have resorted to some rather unorthodox methods to survive amidst the chaos.
Part of the reason you can’t get upset with the film is the cast.
Jesse Eisenberg is the perfect choice to play the unlikely Columbus, utterly believable as the nerd survivor. He’s the inheritor of the sci-fi club protagonists in Dance of the Dead. And Woody Harrelson is an underrated screen presence, absolutely owns the role of Tallahassee, the redneck Wolverine of the post-apocalyptic zombie world. He’s simply the best there is at what he does.
His swaggering confidence is perfect. Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin are on board as well, playing roles that could have easily been two-dimensional and boring, but are very well written and they both step up accordingly.
One thing that I have in common with Columbus, the fear for clowns!
