Travelogue: Sun Moon Lake & Soldiers. |
January 6, 2010 |
Good day folks, this is gonna be a follow up post on Taiwan about this beautiful place called Sun Moon Lake, which has an amazing scenery; spotted many people having their wedding shots taken here.
I have to admit that I’m not exactly awesome when it comes to writing backdated posts especially travelling ones, but I hope the pictures would paint a thousand words.
So what’s this gorgeous place all about?
- Situated in Yuchih, Nantou, the area around the Sun Moon Lake is home to the Thao tribe, one of aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu.
- The east side of the lake looks like a sun and the west side looks like a moon, hence the name.
- In older English literature it was commonly referred to as Lake Candidius, after the 17th century Dutch missionary Georgius Candidius. In the middle of the lake is the Lalu Island, which is the holy ground for the Thao tribe. Originally, the Lalu was where the Thao people inhabited.
- The 921 Earthquake destroyed the pavilion and sunk most of the island. In recent years, due to increasing social and political awareness, more deference and recognition are being given to Taiwanese aborigines.
- Under the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, the Japanese named it the “Jade Island”. [source]
Next up would just be a quick one on the Taiwanese soldiers. We were fortunate to catch them during this apparent transition period where they’ll march from one end to another to sorta change shifts.
Imagine having thousands of visitors a day walking right next to you and you’re not even allowed to blink or response in anyway. Imagine if I were to pop a goofy laugh wtf I wonder if he would point his firearm at me. ![]()
This picture was taken before the strawberry trip,in this very picture I was having insanely high fever. Notice the pale face.
Still managed to squeeze a smile! Thanks mummy for taking such good care of me when I was literally shaking in cold.
Thats another trademark shot.
Time flies, its been almost two weeks since I got back from Taiwan; will be posting on Taipei 101 next, the current world’s tallest skyscraper! Singapore & Thailand, that can wait.
On a random note, just in case you’re not following me on Twitter for my pretty annoying constant updates wtf holidays are bad when it comes to this; the Keeper took me out to try this squid dish over in SS2 for dinner and then the battle begins! We’re really competitive when it comes to a good game of pool, apparently it runs in the family for table games.
I remember saying out loud earlier that I wish I had longer limbs!
Its 3am in the morning now, hopefully I’m up for more emo-thrashing session when I get up.
Lotsa errands to run tomorrow.
Much love,cheerios.

Today here in Italy it’s holidays. It’s Epiphany, but it’s also the BEFANA day! Befana is an old woman, a kind of good witch, (someone said she’s Father Christmas wife), who brings candies to good children! …even if I’m not a child, I’ve found some candies for me this morning in front of my fireplace!
I would like to give some italian candies to you!
Hope this year will give us happiness and everything we wish!
..I’m thinking to start writing a blog too..! Can you give me some tips??
