Taylor’s Lakeside Campus.

June 25, 2010

Good day folks, something sort of occurred right after my final exam paper on Wednesday; was walking or rather rushing to my car since it started drizzling. :| I was already all hyped up and excited because finally I found time to take my aunt & cousin from Melbourne who’s at my place to shop and things like that. The situation obviously blew out of proportion; reading my tweets you should have seen how pissed I was at that moment.

Situations tend to get out of hand when you’re in a midst of something, and getting shit get thrown at your face; however I can gladly assure you that there is a reason why I didn’t go forward with writing the post on Wednesday night knowing I will take sides and blame Taylor’s entirely. Wrong place, wrong time & bad luck; its all good now but I do feel the need to just have it out keeping this situation as fair as possible.

No point pointing fingers, when you have three other pointing right back at you, right? :)

So here’s what happened, I was exhausted from the night before (weeks!) leaving the exam hall with this huge happy bubble yeay I’m done; then walked to my car only to find out that its been clamped. Here’s a thing, its not so much for the RM50 paid to get it off because if you know me in person; I wouldn’t even double park and I’d walk if I have to. So,for my car to be parked for approximately 2 hours since 2.00pm; I was rather taken a back when I realized that its only a couple of cars parked in a row that got clamped.

The signage which stated RM50 fined for unauthorized parking has been up for a couple of months now; since the infamous Taylor’s carpark was slowly improved. Apparently there’s been a notice placed last week during my study week that the clamping crap has been activated; probably for that part; its bad luck & I could have obviously avoided that. My bad on that part, parking in a lot with no yellow lines; pardon my mistake for doing that for a couple of months now.

I am not those typical inconsiderate drivers who parks at wherever because even if my car was parked there; I would choose the slot where when a car chooses to take a left or right turn; I wouldn’t obstruct it in anyway. Yes some people do carry values, and don’t do something that you don’t want others to do to you right? ;)

So I had to walk all the way to the security office to pay off the RM50 in order to remove the clamp. To my surprise, they had printed evidence wtf too much money to waste as proper evidence as if my car being stuck there isn’t enough. I didn’t argue much, just paid the money and walked off in the rain. This what what I wrote on the picture posted on my Facebook wall.

  • Taylor’s Clamping Zone is activated; no unauthorized parking allowed.
  • However, the clarity of an “unauthorized” parking area is highly debatable and unclear. So who defines which area is an unauthorized parking spot, or is this subjective to an preset “boundaries” which were not stated or in anyway informative to the students?
  • Living in the grey area knowing that there were piles of other cars parking along a far less “authorized-looking” area or even over “motorcycle lane painted yellow lines area” is not considered UNAUTHORIZED?
  • Honestly, which university dumb blonde would park at that very spot if a clear “CLAMPING ZONE & DO NOT PARK HERE” would lay out four tyres on the holy ground? We have our cars registered under our names,so nope we’re not behaving in anyway like typical Malaysians who parks even if it states no parking here.
  • Yes we may have been informed during our study week; but a cone/something to indicate that its not legal to park wouldn’t hurt if it was for the benefit of the users (Students).
  • Signage are there for a reason, unless invisible signage count?
  • Please,a proper institution with so much in hand gambling on grey areas taking its tow on students as victims?

Reading back, I must have been really angry. I think for anyone who’s actually so law-abiding and so particular about little things like not double-parking even if I’m super desperate to be put into a situation which such grey area in it; its frantically unfair. Rules are regulated for a purpose, so I honestly do think that there were actions that could have been taken to sort of give students a heads up about it.

  1. Appoint some guard to disallow anyone from parking at that the non-parking areas; since they actually have guards to assist students earlier?
  2. Put up some cones (which they have plenty!) or the missing “CLAMPING ZONE” signage?
  3. And how in world would students know which area is prohibited when the obvious “motorcycle yellow-lined” lanes which were obviously unauthorized for cars to park were allowed as well?
  4. There were even cars parked along the slope, which looked even more improper; so Taylor’s is now picking victims{students) to clamp as a form of example for others?
  5. Knowing that they obviously would not have enough clamps to clamp it all, so now this is what they want to teach in an educational institute that Malaysia suck balls when it comes to implying rules and regulations; even authorities lack funds to pull off a full fledged operation?

Oh well,at least its now on Google search; worth my RM50 advertorial fee.
Fingers crossed that the situation will be improved, and its all good folks.
I hope you learned from my mistake. Share with me if you’ve Taylor’s stories to share!

(updated 25th June 2010: Cones have been placed! :) )

Just curious….r u angry that ur car was clamped or that they didnt clamp the other illegally parked cars?

Personally i’m happy they have started clamping cars…theres ample parking and ppl still park illegally…

Its obvious that they probably dont have enough clamps to clamp ALL the illegally parked cars so they just chose a random few… I do agree though that the three mention cars were the least problematic cars which were parked illegally.

The fact that they didn’t clamp the other illegally parked cars. :) I think its working, but there were a whole lot of things could have been done before randomly selecting cars to clamp. Easiest, most obvious area perhaps/

  4. Wow I am so glad I found this! I’ve been known to be the only kid in my whole course who parks all the way in Sunway and walks to campus. I know you’re not in Taylors anymore but it’s still a mess :( People park like complete assoles everyday. You can fit a kancil between two cars in the parking lots…(http://www.drivethesensation.com/2011/08/rock-roll-ramadhan-part-four-finding.html).

    Thanks for the good post!
