Cheerio Talks Architecture & Taipei 101. |
January 9, 2010 |
Good day folks. Its the weekend yet again, and the first week of January is almost over!
It feels like as its been such a long time since I’m written anything architecturally related; I’ve been sounding more like a tour guide wtf writing way too much about the places I’ve been, or rather just posting up pictures of it. Just to keep things a little updated, degree classes will resume next month already; one step closer in being an architect, but honestly I’m in no hurry.
Performance for a musical hairshow for A Cut Above Grease,The Musical in 2006,i think.
Life is a crazy chase, and this year is gonna be a year where I’d love to dive in deeper into a more passionate zone of work; I want to be in love with what I love to do. From the very first day I set foot into architecture, I’ve already made an intangible vow wtf that I’d go on a total social suicide if I have to get there.
But if you’d love to read what I have learned over the past three years of pursuing architecture (4 more years to go!), I’ve discovered a couple of different things about myself.
Taipei 101: The current tallest skyscraper in the world!
Entry ticket!
Coming from a background of the same field,I guess most of these things pretty much runs in my blood. It isn’t always a good thing having a parent who’s always better than what you’re capable of; hence the constant immense amount of pressure which suffocates me at times.
However,I will not stop till I reach my goal of gaining my hopeful Ar.Cheerio wtf just kidding; lady architects can be awesome too okay!

Here’s the bits and pieces of what I’ve picked up along the way about myself thanks to architecture:
- Probably discovered the artistic side about myself in terms of using my hands physically to draw, paint, build architectural models; and just when you thought LEGO was tough!
- I look at things very differently now,and a higher level of observation being within a space or a building, and its always cool to know everything under the roof, right?
Like stepping into a certain mall, talking about the level of efficiency of the carparks, the ventilation or things like the effectiveness of the human circulation. - Discovered my love for photography, but I have a weird selection of what I like to snap though. I’m weird, that way. I don’t want to be a photographer.
- Most importantly,it helped me to discover this side of myself and my love for writing.

Architecture consumes you.
Thats one thing for sure,I’ve never stopped struggling to juggle between my studies, relationship, and of course a little bit of everything else. Its not easy! I tremble and fall all the time,at times the feeling of not being able to sustain my stamina is striking awesome workable designs, and it sucks to miss out on all the fun stuff when I switch my work mode on.
But one similar thing that applies to everything; when there’s a will, there’s a way.
View for the top.
Yes I went all the way up to the observatory floor.
Some boring stuff about Taipei 101 that you might wanna read or skip on if you refuse to know more about your world’s tallest skyscraper. Absolutely optional!
- Taipei 101 was the first building in the world to break the half-kilometer mark in height and the first record-setting skyscraper constructed in the new millennium.
- Taipei 101 is designed to withstand the typhoon winds and earthquake tremors common in its area of the Asia-Pacific.
- The design achieves both strength and flexibility for the tower through the use of high-performance steel construction. Thirty-six columns support Taipei 101, including eight “mega-columns” packed with 10,000-psi concrete.
- Every eight floors, outrigger trusses connect the columns in the building’s core to those on the exterior.
Sorry architectural talk! These features combine with the solidity of its foundation to make Taipei 101 one of the most stable buildings ever constructed. - The height of 101 floors commemorates the renewal of time: the new century that arrived as the tower was built (100+1) and all the new years that follow (January 1 = 1-01). It symbolizes high ideals by going one better on 100, a traditional number of perfection.
Thats 101 storeys folks!
Family love.
Both brothers are on twitter now. Wen Yang & Wen Zhi.

Set my foot happily here,I love buildings!
I love how I look at the world very differently now. Its like comparing me and somebody else stepping foot into a building; I’d probably appreciate them a whole lot more and criticize a lot too wtf. Can’t wait to grow up,and build real buildings; would you want me to build yours?
My point is to spread this message that anything is possible in life,as long you truly believe in yourself and it doesn’t matter what happened in the past. Make your present count, and the rest will follow.
Thats a video of my work two years ago,i think.
Many hours of rendering!
3DMax visualization is not a favourite subject, but the designing part & model building is fun!
Blogging isn’t everything by the way,at least not to me. Merely an accessory, maybe.
Have a great weekend and I’m heading to Kitchen Creatures this weekend hopefully!
Much love,cheerios.
